Poet Nazrul’s death anniv observed at DU

The 41st death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was observed on Dhaka University (DU) campus on Sunday with befitting manner.  


On the occasion, the authorities of the university chalked out elaborate programmes, including reciting Quran after Fajr prayer at the university’s central mosque, procession, discussion and cultural event.


Teachers, students and officers of the DU led by the university’s Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique paid homage to the poet by placing wreath at his graveyard on the campus in the morning.      


Later, a discussion was held with Prof Arefin Siddique in the chair while DU Bangla Department Head Prof Bhismadev Chowdhury conducted it.


The VC, in his speech, said, Nazrul is our national poet and also the poet of world humanity. He penned against crime, misdeeds, injustice and fought against British rule.


“We will have to follow his ideas to conduct ourselves in right way by boycotting corruption, greed and injustice,” he added.   


Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Dr Akhtaruzzaman, Treasurer Prof Dr Mohammad Kamal Uddin, Nazrul researcher and Emeritus Prof Dr Rafiqul Islam, General Secretary of DU Teachers Association Prof Dr Md Rahmat Ullah, Director of Nazrul Research Centre Dr Begum Aktar Kamal also spoke on the occasion.
