BRAC University has suspended classes for two days, as student protest over an assault on a teacher by the university registrar intensified on Wednesday.

The university authorities have issued a notice on Wednesday afternoon in this regard. Scheduled exams, however, will continue.

Teacher Farhaan Uddin Ahmed said that Registrar Sahool Afzal and two others at the university assaulted him for refusing to accept his termination paper on Sunday.

Since than, a number of students have been boycotting classes to take part in the protests. A committee formed by the university to look into the assault has already been rejected by students.

A new committee has now been announced with AFM Yusuf Haider, chairman of the Department of Mathematics and Natural science, as its head.

The committee’s other members are Prof Syed Manzoorul Islam of the Department of English and Humanities, Prof Afsan Chowdhury, university’s alumni head Tajdin Hassan and a students’ representative.
