RAJSHAHI: Substantial and sustainable promotion of tourism sector through the best uses of its existing potentiality can be the vital means of infusing dynamism into regional economy, reports BSS.
Side by side with the government’s efforts, private sector investment has become an urgent need to flourish the sector for earning foreign currencies. The observation came in a divisional level workshop titled “Mass-Awareness Related Programme on Tourism Affairs” held at Nanking Darbar Hall in the city Tuesday.
Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) organised the workshop in association with Commissioner Office of Rajshahi division.
Over 150 people comprising administrative officials, chamber and professional leaders, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders from all eight districts under Rajshahi division attended the meeting to share their views on how to promote the sector. Divisional Commissioner Noor-Ur-Rahman add-ressed the opening session as the chief guest with Additional Commissioner Aminul Islam in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Helal Mahmud Sharif, Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan, Zila Parishad Chairman Muhammad Ali Sarker, President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries Md Muniruzzaman and social worker Shahin Akter Rainy, among others, spoke on the occasion.
While presenting the keynote paper, Director of BTB Nikhil Ranjan Roy said tourism has been identified as the prioritised sector for overall economic development of Bangladesh.
Commissioner Noor-Ur-Rahman urged the deputy commissioners to find out valuable sites and take necessary steps to protect and conserve those through proper renovation.
