BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Tuesday said atmosphere will have to be ensured as all political parties of the country can participate in the next general election.

“And the arrangement should be ensured as people can caste their vote going polling centers. To ensure the arrangement, a poll-time government is needed which can assist the election commission,” she said.

The BNP chairperson came up with the statement at an iftar mahfil arranged by Bangladesh Labour Party, a component of 20-party alliance, with Mustafizur Rahman Iran in the chair at Emanuel’s Convention Center in the city’s Gulshan.

“The Hasina (Awami League) government will not do anything in this regard as their method is different. They do not want to be elected. That’s why they don’t think about sorrows and sufferings of people,” she added.

Khaleda said the incumbent government has already determined their ‘tactics’ to stay in power while they are giving free scopes for a section to keep them in hand to this end.

“Government is working for them who can ensure their victory in election. There is no price of vote of common people. That’s why our demand is that voting will have to be held in the country as there is no voting for ten years here,” she said.

She also criticized the government for imposing new VAT in the budget proposed for fiscal 2017-18.

Claiming that roads and highways are in sorry state across the country leaving many people killed in road crashes, the BNP chief alleged that the government doesn’t pay attention to it.

She also criticized the price hike of essential commodities and blamed the government, saying that it failed to control the prices during the month of Ramadan.

Khaleda claimed that people now want change and to get ‘rid of’ the incumbent government and asked all to get united to this end.
