Int’l Day of UN Peacekeepers observed

The International Day of UN Peacekeepers was observed in Bangladesh like elsewhere across the globe on Monday.


To mark the occasion, various events were organised to commemorate all brave men and women who contributed towards establishing peace and security in the war-torn countries across the world.


The daylong programme began with ‘Peacekeepers Assembly’ arranged by Bangladesh Air Force Base Bashar, Dhaka and Air Force Base Zahurul Haque, Chittagong on Monday morning.


State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam inaugurated the event by releasing pigeons and balloons in Dhaka and Maj Gen Md Jahangir Kabir Talukder, GOC 24 Inf Div, Chittagong inaugurated the event in Chittagong.


On Monday afternoon, a programme on the occasion of the International Day of UN Peacekeepers was held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre. President Abdul Hamid was present as the chief guest.


Bangladesh is one of the leading troop contributors to UN peacekeeping missions with contributions to 54 missions in 40 countries since 1998. Currently, 6927 peacekeepers from Bangladesh are serving in various countries.
