Speakers at a programme on Thursday said about 95 percent breast cancers can be cured if they are detected early and treated properly.
The knowledge about the fatal disease has increased many folds over the last decade, they said.

They made the remarks at a seminar on Breast Cancer in Bangladesh organized by Bangladesh Cancer Society and Development Partners in the city.

Dr Habibullah Talukder, a noted oncologist of the country, presented a keynote paper.

In his presentation, he said that breast cancer among women is rising day by day. It is not incurable diseases now if it can be diagnosed at early stage.
“Treatments for breast cancers are available in the country. It’s necessary to raise awareness among women so that they can visit public hospitals,” he added.

He also said that breast cancer was the most common cancer worldwide in women contributing more than 25% of the total number of new cases diagnosed in 2016.

There are some sign and symptoms of breast cancer which are as follows - lump or thickening in the breast or armpit, change to the skin of breast, changes in the shape or size of breast, dimpling of the skin or thickening in the breast tissue, a nipple that’s turned in (inverted), a rash (like eczema) on the nipple, nipple changes or discharge, pain in breast and any other unusual or persistent changes to the breast, he said.

If anyone finds any changes in their breast, she should go to government hospital where treatment and diagnosis are available, Dr Talukder added.
