Thakurgaon-1: Faisal Amin offers flowers to defeated rival, seeks unity

Newly elected Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) lawmaker Mirza Faisal Amin visited his defeated Jamaat-e-Islami rival Delawar Hosen at his residence on Friday, presenting him with a bouquet of flowers in a gesture of political goodwill following the Thakurgaon-1 by-election.

The two leaders exchanged greetings and shared sweets during the afternoon meeting, held a day after the election. Faisal Amin called on Delawar Hosen and his party to act as a “shadow government” by raising constructive criticism and highlighting any shortcomings in governance.

He said development initiatives in the constituency should benefit people irrespective of their political affiliations, stressing that no section of the population should be left out.

Referring to the votes secured by Delawar Hosen, the BNP lawmaker said supporters of the Jamaat candidate should also have access to government development projects. “They are also our people. We cannot undertake development activities while excluding such a large section of the population,” he said.

Faisal Amin said he wanted to work collectively to fulfil the pledges made to voters during the election campaign. With guidance from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, he hoped to engage opposition leaders in efforts to develop Thakurgaon and build a better Bangladesh.

Delawar Hosen congratulated Faisal Amin on his victory and pledged cooperation in development and public welfare initiatives.
