The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has formed a high-level investigation committee to look into the death and burial of Manik Pashari in Pirojpur, as well as the authenticity of his freedom fighter certificate and other related issues.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the ministry said the committee was formed on the instructions of Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan following media reports on the incident.
The committee has been asked to conduct an impartial and objective investigation into the circumstances surrounding Pashari’s death and verify the authenticity of his freedom fighter certificate.
It has also been instructed to submit a report to the ministry as soon as possible.
The ministry said it would take necessary further action in accordance with existing laws and regulations after reviewing the committee’s findings and recommendations.
Reaffirming its commitment to upholding the ideals and dignity of the Liberation War, the ministry said it was working to remove individuals who were not genuine freedom fighters from the official list while ensuring that no genuine freedom fighter’s honour and dignity were undermined.
It also said any freedom fighter involved in unethical activities or used by any organisation or group would have to bear responsibility for their own actions.
The ministry further stated that it remained vigilant to prevent any fraudulent individual or group from misusing the identity of the country’s founders in ways that could put the state in difficulty.
