Bangladesh and China have agreed to establish a technical and vocational university in Bangladesh and upgrade eight vocational institutions to improve practical skills and employment opportunities for Bangladeshi graduates.
The initiatives are part of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon and Chinese Vice Minister of Education Wang Guangyan at the closing ceremony of the 2026 World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference in Tianjin, China, on Saturday.
Under the agreement, the eight institutions will adopt Chinese curricula, teaching methods and practical training models. The two countries will also introduce joint 2+2 and 3+1 academic programmes, establish smart classrooms and modern training facilities, and expand scholarships for Bangladeshi students.
The agreement prioritises training for Bangladeshi Chinese-language teachers and the introduction of more integrated “Chinese Language + Vocational Skills” courses.
The two sides will also explore bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes in Chinese Language and Literature at Bangladeshi universities.
Institutions from Guangdong, Jiangxi and other Chinese provinces will partner in implementing the initiatives. The MoU follows bilateral consultations on 15 October. Bangladesh also endorsed the Beijing Agreement, a framework for internationally recognised vocational education standards that can be adapted to local needs.
