Ramadan is likely to begin in Bangladesh on 9 February 2027, a day after the forecast start date in the UAE, where astronomical projections indicate the holy month could begin on 8 February, subject to official moon-sighting confirmation. Hijri months in Bangladesh generally begin a day after those in the Middle East.
Gulf News, Dubai, reported the UAE forecast, citing the Emirates Astronomical Society. The holy month is 121 days away.
Ibrahim Al Jarwan, the society’s chairman and a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, said the astronomical new moon would occur at about 7.50pm UAE time on Saturday, after sunset.
According to Al Khaleej newspaper, Al Jarwan said the crescent could be visible to the naked eye this evening. This would make tomorrow, the first day of Jumada Al Awwal 1448 AH, leaving four lunar months until Ramadan.
Astronomical projections suggest Ramadan will last 29 or 30 days, putting Eid Al Fitr on 9 or 10 March in the UAE.
However, the Sharjah Space and Astronomy Hub, affiliated with the University of Sharjah, offered a different assessment. It said the crescent would not be visible to the naked eye or through conventional telescopes after sunset today, although advanced astrophotography might detect it before sunset.
