Additional DIG Tutul sacked for misconduct

The government has dismissed Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Tutul Chakraborty over misconduct, including leaving his workplace ahead of the scheduled time and using a VIP lounge at Rajshahi airport by falsely identifying himself as a DIG.

The decision was announced in a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday, which stated that he had been absconding since 23 January.

According to the notification, Tutul was granted two days’ leave on 14 and 15 November 2025, with permission to leave his workplace, followed by three days of casual leave from 16 to 18 November.

However, he left his workplace on 13 November without submitting the required departure report.

On the same day, he allegedly concealed his actual rank and introduced himself as a DIG to use the DIG lounge at Shah Makhdum Airport in Rajshahi. He then boarded a US-Bangla Airlines flight to Dhaka at around 10:20am.

The notification also said Tutul had previously used the VIP lounge at Rajshahi airport on several occasions by identifying himself as the DIG of Rajshahi Range.

The ministry described his actions as serious negligence of official duties, disregard for lawful orders and violations of departmental discipline, which were punishable offences under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.

A departmental case was filed against Tutul, and a show-cause notice was served on him on 5 February this year. However, he neither replied within the stipulated time nor sought an extension.

An inquiry report later found the allegations of misconduct against him conclusively established, according to the notification. A second show-cause notice was issued on 16 June, asking why he should not be dismissed from service based on the findings. He did not respond to that notice either.
