Trishita Maula has become the first Bangladeshi-origin diplomat to lead the US Embassy in Dhaka as chargé d’affaires as US Ambassador Brent T Christensen is visiting New Delhi.
A career US Foreign Service officer, Maula has recently been active in diplomatic engagements on health, security and bilateral cooperation.
As the new US chargé d’affaires, Maula formally handed over 500,000 dengue NS1 rapid diagnostic test kits provided by the US government to Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain in the capital on Thursday. The kits were supplied through the US-funded STRIDES programme and will be distributed to district and upazila hospitals based on demand.
Maula joined the US Department of State in 2008 as a management-coned generalist. According to a State Department profile, she previously served in Bangladesh on a consular tour and held management assignments in Switzerland, North Macedonia, Croatia and Podgorica. She also served as management officer at the US Embassy in Tirana.
A native New Yorker, Maula graduated from Barnard College, Columbia University, with degrees in economics and mathematics.
Earlier this week, Maula led a US Embassy delegation in a meeting with Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, discussing specialised policing, training, capacity building and security cooperation.
