Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) President Taskeen Ahmed has urged businesses to make greater use of automated revenue management and digital tax services to ease compliance and remove barriers to tax payments.
He made the call on Thursday while inaugurating a workshop on “Changes in VAT, Tax, Customs Duty and Personal e-Return in FY2026-27” at the DCCI auditorium, according to a press release.
Taskeen said businesses must stay abreast of changes in VAT, income tax, customs duty and e-return systems and integrate the revised requirements into their regular operations.
Greater adoption of digital revenue services would make tax compliance more convenient and help raise the tax-to-GDP ratio, he said.
Nirjhar Ahmed, additional commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka (West), said businesses need to keep pace with changes in revenue rules to avoid compliance difficulties.
She said VAT registration, or BIN, is now mandatory for several activities, including obtaining or renewing trade licences, opening bank accounts and obtaining or renewing membership of trade organisations.
She urged businesses yet to obtain BIN registration to complete the process without delay.
Under Section 64 of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012, registered businesses can now submit consolidated VAT returns for three tax periods, or quarterly, instead of filing separate returns every month, Nirjhar said.
She added that the required deposit for filing appeals has been reduced from 10% to 1% before the Appellate Tribunal and to 2% before the High Court, easing the financial pressure on businesses.
The workshop featured separate sessions on income tax and VAT changes, conducted by Snehasish Barua, adviser to the DCCI Standing Committee on Customs, VAT, Taxation & NBR Related Issues, and Md Shafiqul Alam, joint convenor of the committee.
More than 100 representatives from DCCI member organisations attended the workshop.
DCCI Director M Mosharrof Hossain was also present.
