Irregularities and negligence in healthcare services would not be tolerated under any circumstances and that strict administrative action would be taken where necessary, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain has said.

While addressing a meeting with officials and employees at the conference room of Bhedarganj Upazila Health Complex after inspecting the hospital in Shariatpur on Saturday, he urged everyone to perform their duties sincerely at their respective workplaces to help move the country forward.

He said the government had remained as soft as possible so far, but there would be no further room for carelessness. Officials found guilty of misconduct could face termination or suspension.

The minister said that if the government fails to fulfil its commitments following the July uprising, not only the government but the entire country will suffer.

He also said that there will never be a prime minister more sincere than Tarique Rahman in the history of Bangladesh.

During the visit, the minister toured different wards of the hospital, spoke with patients, and listened to their concerns.

He also inspected the hospital’s kitchen, toilets, storeroom, and operation theatre to assess the quality of healthcare services.

The minister also visited two private clinics and diagnostic centres located in front of the Bhedarganj Upazila Health Complex.

The Modern Diagnostic Centre and Clinic was sealed after authorities found that it lacked the necessary licences and documents, did not have facilities for normal deliveries, and was involved in various irregularities. The Bhedarganj Popular Diagnostic and Hospital was ordered to remain closed for seven days on similar allegations. The authorities have been instructed to submit the required documents within the stipulated period, failing which the facility will also be sealed, the minister said.
