In his budget speech, the administrator said priority has been given to road and drainage development, expanding the supply of safe drinking water, modernising waste management, restoring canals, reducing waterlogging, dengue prevention, environmental protection, tree plantation, easing traffic congestion and expanding IT-based citizen services.
The budget includes plans to install 20 kilometres of water transmission pipelines, 280 kilometres of distribution pipelines, establish 14 District Metered Areas (DMAs), provide 35,000 smart water connections and construct or rehabilitate 35 kilometres of drains.
It also proposes developing parks, playgrounds and community centres on five hectares of land, installing 54 water pumps in 27 wards, launching a permanent dumping ground in Jalkuri, developing solid waste management infrastructure in Kadam Rasul, rehabilitating hawkers, constructing alternative roads, improving religious establishments and installing 30 "street memory stamps" in honour of the martyrs of the July uprising.
After announcing the budget, Sakhawat Hossain Khan called on city residents to cooperate in building a clean, environmentally friendly, planned and traffic-free city and urged them to pay holding taxes, water bills and other municipal fees on time.
