Actress Idhika Paul, who has won the hearts of the audience on both Bengals, says she hopes to work in more films like the Bangladeshi blockbuster “Priyotoma”, which marked a turning point in her career.
Idhika captured the hearts of Bangladeshi moviegoers with her portrayal of the title character in “Priyotoma”, directed by Himel Ashraf. Starring opposite Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan, her performance received widespread acclaim, with the on-screen chemistry between the two actors becoming one of the film’s biggest highlights.
Although Idhika later reunited with Shakib Khan in another film, she believes the overwhelming success and emotional impact of “Priyotoma” remain unmatched. Before making her
big-screen debut, she was primarily known for her work in Kolkata television dramas. “Priyotoma” introduced her as a leading film actress and significantly expanded her popularity in both countries.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Idhika reflected on the unforgettable memories associated with Priyotoma. “I miss the Priyotoma days very much. It was my first film with Shakib Khan and also my debut as a film actress. After completing the shooting, I returned to Kolkata. When the film was released, it created a huge buzz. I came to Dhaka with my mother to watch it at Bashundhara Cineplex. Even though I was wearing a mask, people recognised me as I came out of the theatre,” she said.
“Honestly, ‘Priyotoma’ has been a blessing in my life. I want to act in more Bangladeshi films with stories like ‘Priyotoma’. I don’t know whether I will get that opportunity again, but I sincerely hope I do,” the actress added.
