The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has significantly reduced the retail prices of privately supplied liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and autogas, bringing welcome relief to consumers amid lower international fuel prices.
Under the new pricing decision, the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder has been reduced by Tk357 to Tk1,528, while the price of autogas has been cut by Tk16.53 per litre to Tk70.40.
The revised prices came into effect from 6pm on Thursday and will remain in force until further notice, BERC said in an official order.
According to the commission, the latest adjustment reflects changes in the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP) for July, which serves as the benchmark for LPG pricing in Bangladesh.
For July, the contract price has been set at US$580 per tonne for propane and $600 per tonne for butane, resulting in a weighted average price of $593 per tonne based on the standard 35:65 propane-butane mix.
BERC said the new retail prices were also calculated by taking into account $180 per tonne for freight and traders’ premiums, along with an average exchange rate of Tk123.08 per US dollar.
Under the revised tariff, the maximum retail price of bottled LPG has been fixed at Tk127.30 per kilogram.
Accordingly, the price of a 12.5kg cylinder has been set at Tk1,591, while 15kg cylinders will cost Tk1,910, 20kg cylinders Tk2,546, 25kg cylinders Tk3,183, 30kg cylinders Tk3,819, and 45kg cylinders Tk5,729.
BERC has also fixed the price of privately supplied LPG through reticulated systems at Tk123.55 per kilogram in liquid form and Tk274.50 per cubic metre in gaseous form.
The regulator warned that bottled LPG, reticulated LPG and autogas must not be sold above the prices set by the commission.
However, the price of government-supplied LPG remains unchanged. The price of a 12.5kg cylinder supplied by the public sector will continue at Tk776.93.
The latest revision follows BERC’s previous price adjustment on 2 June, when the price of a 12kg private LPG cylinder was reduced from Tk1,940 to Tk1,885, while autogas prices were lowered from Tk89.50 to Tk86.93 per litre.
