The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has solved the mystery surrounding the murder of a young man in Ashulia nearly 18 months after his body was found floating in a pond, arresting two suspects who allegedly confessed to their involvement in the crime.
According to investigators, the victim, Hasibul Islam Jony (21), was killed over a dispute related to drug trafficking and his body was later dumped in a pond to conceal the crime.
Jony’s body was recovered from a pond owned by one Nazmul Hossain in Madhupur Uttarpara area of Ashulia on 16 December 2024.
Following the recovery, the victim’s father, Md Shahidul Islam, filed a murder case with Ashulia police station on 18 December against eight to 10 unidentified individuals under relevant sections of the Penal Code.
After conducting the investigation for six days, local police transferred the case to the PBI, which formally took over the probe on 24 December 2024 as it fell under the agency’s scheduled cases.
PBI officials said investigators interrogated previously arrested suspect Md Shah Jalal Sarkar after gathering intelligence and analysing technological evidence.
Based on information obtained during questioning, another suspect, Md Saiful Islam (40), was arrested from Madhupur area in Ashulia on 18 June 2026.

Both suspects were produced before a court on 18 June.
PBI said Shah Jalal later gave a confessional statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, admitting his role in the killing.
According to the investigation and the confessional statement, the accused had long-standing disputes with Jony over drug business activities in the area.
