Troubles That Jeopardise People’s Everyday Lives
A A

Just a few days ago, a bus plunged into the River Padma in Rajbari. Some 26 passengers lost their lives. According to media reports, the individual who was driving the bus did not have adequate driving skills and was under the influence of drugs. But this was not the sole mishap that took place during the recent Eid journey. At least 274 deaths on the roads were reported during the Eid rush. And nobody knows how many more lives will be lost on the roads in this way before they become safe for people. And we really do not know when the authorities will learn to hold these individuals accountable for their skills and lack of sobriety before they bring about such disaster.

One thing has now become quite clear after the mishap at Padma. Drug addiction of the staff in the transport department is largely responsible for so many road accidents. Drugs and crimes are two sides of the same coin. Among other primary reasons behind triggering criminal psychotic behaviours is substance abuse and drug addiction. In many cases, an addicted person acts as a threat to society and often spoils it. On the other hand, people who become addicted to drugs and get involved in crimes have most commonly reported the issue of financial instability experienced by individuals. However, multiple reasons are often overlooked that play a significant role in shaping individuals who may become potential criminals. According to experts, observing criminals on grounds such as individual differences in behaviour, emotional responses, personality traits, trauma, etc., tells us more about what drives individuals to become criminals. Children who do not know how to regulate their feelings or emotions usually turn into grown-ups who are clueless about regulating their feelings. Early childhood traumas, which include physical abuse, witnessing the loss of a close one, neglect, etc. From the country's current situation, whatever we are facing can be considered a crime wave. Under this wave, some of the most heinous crimes of all time have spiked, including gruesome murder, rapes, and robberies. Rapists are often mentally disordered people who have subtle signs of schizophrenia or other psychosis-related problems. These adults find it pleasing while their victims are suffering; this satisfies their inner child, who felt unsafe and unheard. No crime or accident can be controlled or erased from society instantly. Social institutions that create the basis of our society, which include schools, religious institutions, etc., are to teach individuals on a larger scale. Additionally, families must remain connected and concerned about their children's upbringing. Families play the first and foremost vital role in shaping the future of an individual. Parents should be made aware of how their actions can and will impact their children in the long run.Bangladesh should have a new beginning. For that reason, we must learn how to tackle this rising crime rate and criminal activity. It is not enough just to make new laws and expect things to be under control. But rather, we should work together as a society to remove what causes such despair, neglect, and trauma.
