UK immigration authorities arrest five Bangladeshis

Five Bangladeshis have been arrested during a crackdown on illegal immigrants in Herefordshire, the United Kingdom, the BBC reports on Tuesday.

UK Immigration Enforcement officers made the arrests at two restaurants – Jalsagor and Taste of Raj – on St Owen Street in the city on 11 December.

The UK Home Office also referred the restaurants to the Civil Penalty Compliance Team for further action.

According to the BBC report, one Bangladeshi man was arrested at Jalsagor on suspicion of immigration-related offences, while four others were arrested at Taste of Raj – two for overstaying and two for breaching bail conditions. Details of the bail cases were not disclosed.

Commenting on the arrests, a UK Home Office spokesperson said illegal working undermines honest employers, undercuts local wages and fuels organised immigration crime, adding that the UK government would not stand for it.
