A fierce snowstorm and repeated game stoppages marked the dramatic finale of the Canadian Premier League. Amid Ontario’s first snowstorm of the season, Atletico Ottawa and Shamit Shome's Cavalry FC battled for nearly four hours in the title decider. After conceding in extra time, Cavalry fell 2-1.
The kickoff was delayed by around 20 minutes due to heavy snowfall, and play was halted five times during the 90 minutes as officials cleared snow from key areas of the field. Despite the harsh conditions, Cavalry took the lead in the 33rd minute when Fraser Aird scored from the penalty spot. Seven minutes later, Ottawa’s David Rodriguez equalized with a stunning bicycle kick, leaving the first half tied 1-1.
Both teams struggled in the second half, forcing extra time. In the second half of extra time, Mexico’s David Rodriguez scored the winner, sealing Atletico Ottawa’s first-ever Canadian Premier League title.
