The Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF) has launched the Asia and Middle East Society for Radiation Therapy and Oncology (AMSTRO).

The official launch coincides with World Radiation Therapy Day on Sunday.

The launch will be marked by an online introductory session organized by the society in collaboration with the foundation.

According to Dr. Nadeem Parvez, founder and Secretary-General of AMSTRO, the society aims to achieve several key objectives:

Structure and Leadership

AMSTRO includes several specialized committees, such as the Scientific Committee, Education and Research Committees, Medical Physics Committee, Radiation Therapy Technologists Committee, Clinical and Technical Committees, and the Regional Leaders Committee. Its administrative body features a select group of doctors, academics, and experts from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Oman, Pakistan, and Canada, reflecting its regional and international scope.

The Role of the Arab Science and Technology Foundation

Dr. Abdullah Al-Najjar, Chairman of ASTF, stated that the new society will function as a specialized scientific and professional community in the field of radiation therapy for tumors. He added that AMSTRO is committed to raising the standards of radiation therapy, oncology, and comprehensive cancer care throughout the Arab region, Asia, and the Middle East. The society also seeks to integrate international best practices and advance radiation therapy through education, research, and global cooperation.

Dr. Al-Najjar also emphasized that by launching this society, ASTF is reinforcing its role as an incubator for leading scientific initiatives. These initiatives aim to build research and professional networks capable of addressing the challenges of cancerous diseases and developing their treatments to serve the people of the region and the world. ASTF, established in Sharjah in 2000, is the largest Arab scientific organization, with over 50,000 scientists and innovators.
