Five journalists from Kaler Kantho have been awarded the "Courageous Journalism Award" by the government in recognition of their fearless coverage during the July–August Uprising in 2024.

The awardees are Joint Editor Saeed Khan, staff photographer Lutfor Rahman, multimedia reporters Mahdi Hasan and Md Al Amin, and Dhaka University correspondent Manzur Hossain Mahi. Each of them received a certificate of recognition along with a financial grant for their brave reporting from the ground.

Mohammad Mahfuz Alam, Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, attended as the chief guest and handed over the awards at a ceremony held on Sunday at the Tattho Bhaban auditorium.

Also present at the event were Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, Additional Secretary to the Information Ministry Kawsar Alam, and Managing Director of the Journalists Welfare Trust Md Abdullah.

In addition to recognising courageous journalism, the event also honoured the families of five journalists who were killed and several who were injured during the July protests.

A total of 192 journalists across the country were selected under three categories — martyred, injured, and courageous. Families of martyred journalists were given Tk100,000 each, while injured and courageous journalists received Tk25,000 each.

The financial support was provided from the fund of the Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust.
