Bangladesh Premier League side Bashundhara Kings have appointed Brazilian tactician Sergio Farias as their new head coach ahead of the AFC Challenge League assignment.
The 58-year-old replaces Romanian coach Valeriu Tița, who took charge after the departure of long-serving Spanish coach Oscar Bruzon.
Farias brings a wealth of international experience to the Kings’ dugout. He previously coached Brazil’s U-17 and U-20 national teams, guiding the U-17s to the South American Championship title in 2001. On the club stage, he enjoyed a successful stint with South Korean side Pohang Steelers, winning the AFC Champions League in 2009. That same year, he led the club to a third-place finish at the FIFA Club World Cup.
Farias was also named K League Manager of the Year in 2007, a testament to his consistent success in Asia.
His appointment comes at a critical time for the Kings, who are set to compete in the AFC Challenge League playoffs next month. They will face Syria’s Al-Karamah in a decisive fixture on August 12 in Doha, aiming to book a place in the main round of the tournament.
