A government notification has already been issued banning all activities of the Awami League, along with its affiliated, associate, and like-minded organisations. Now, the government has initiated steps to shut down all of the party’s online platforms, including Facebook and YouTube.
According to the government's decision, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has been instructed to block the websites, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Telegram, and X (formerly Twitter) accounts of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations.
This information was confirmed by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.
He stated that on Tuesday, the National Cyber Security Agency sent a letter to the BTRC in this regard. Following that, the BTRC will issue letters to the relevant platforms requesting the closure of the accounts in accordance with the government’s directive.
The notification stated that all types of publicity, media and social media activities, processions, rallies, meetings, and conferences organised by the Awami League and all of its affiliated, associate, and like-minded organisations shall remain prohibited until the completion of trials against their leaders and activists at the International Crimes Tribunal.
