To foster interest in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology among young students in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (BDAIO) 2025 is set to be held for the second time.
This year’s competition is jointly organised by Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) and Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT), read a press release.
Students from various educational backgrounds—including schools, colleges, technical education boards, and British curriculum institutions across the country—are eligible to participate. The preliminary selection rounds were successfully held on 3 and 10 May, from which 171 students qualified for the national round.
The national round will take place on 17 May at the BUBT campus. Following an inaugural ceremony, a five-hour-long Machine Learning and Programming Contest will be held in designated rooms.
Winners of this round will get the prestigious opportunity to represent Bangladesh at the International AI Olympiad, scheduled to be held in Beijing, China. In addition, winners will receive certificates, exciting prizes, and access to both online and offline training programmes.
A new addition to this year’s competition is a 30-minute multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blanks quiz segment, focused on artificial intelligence and Python programming. Following the quiz, a panel discussion and workshop will be held for the participants.
A total of 235 students across junior and senior categories have already been selected for this segment, with attractive prizes awaiting for the winners.
A press conference was held to announce the event, where notable attendees included Vice-Chancellor of BUBT, Prof ABM Shawkat Ali; Director of IQAC and BRIC, Prof Shanti Narayan Ghosh; Team Leader of BDAIO and Director of the Institute of Information Technology at the University of Dhaka, Prof BM Mainul Hossain; Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences Prof Munshi Mahbubur Rahman, Chairman of the CSE Department at BUBT, Assistant Professor Md Saifur Rahman; Head of Product and Growth of the title sponsor, REVE Chat, Mamunur Rauf; along with faculty members and officials from both BUBT and BdOSN.
In his speech, the vice-chancellor said, “The Bangladesh Artificial Intelligence Olympiad is not merely a competition; rather, it is a significant platform for the youth to develop the skills needed to thrive in a technology-driven world of the future.”
The event will be organised under the supervision of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at BUBT.
