Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul on Saturday said the interim government would form a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to prevent the incidents of enforced disappearances.
“It would probably have been better if it [the commission] had been in our country since 1972. We want to resolve everything very professionally. We will have a Truth and Reconciliation Commission,” he said.
“There is a great need for a Truth Justice Commission or a Truth Reconciliation Commission.”
The adviser was speaking at a view-exchange meeting on the “Enforced Disappearance Prevention and Remedy Ordinance, 2025 (Second Draft) at the Judicial Administration Training Institute in Dhaka.
Expressing doubts whether those who come to power in future will strengthen the law on enforced disappearances, Asif said, “We want to make this law very strong. We also want to make the commission in question very strong.
“Because, we also cannot confirm whether the next government will strengthen any law on enforced disappearances or not,” he added.
