The European Union and popular Bangladeshi hip-hop artist Critical Mahmood on Thursday launched a new campaign titled "I've Got the Power", aimed at promoting clean energy and sustainability across Bangladesh.

The campaign, centred around an original track by Mahmood bearing the same title, seeks to raise awareness about the benefits of renewable energy and the transformative impact of EU-supported initiatives in local communities. The anthem encourages people to embrace renewable solutions for a greener future.

“As an artist, it is my passion to support positive change with an impact on real people. Renewable energy is crucial for the future prosperity of Bangladesh and I’m proud to lend my voice to inspire change and contribute to a larger mission in collaboration with the European Union,” said Critical Mahmood.

The initiative is part of the EU’s broader Global Gateway strategy and is supported by major renewable energy projects in the country, including the Bangladesh Renewable Energy Facility. This project aims to add around 750 MW of renewable energy to the national grid through utility-scale solar, onshore wind, and battery storage systems.

European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller said, “The clean energy transition is about people: their access to reliable power, their access to economic opportunities. This campaign should make us think about how we can all work to build a sustainable future for individuals and communities in Bangladesh.”

The campaign also highlights real-life stories such as Selim, an e-rickshaw driver in Kaliganj whose livelihood depends on battery-powered transportation, and Nusrat, a young cricketer whose training sessions continue into the evening thanks to solar-powered lighting. Their experiences reflect the tangible benefits of the EU-Bangladesh partnership in supporting clean energy solutions.
