Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) has demanded that the interim government will take initiatives to open all the labour markets, including Malaysia.

They have also demanded of laying emphasis on the interest of the workers, particularly minimum expenditure for their reaching to the destination countries.

The members of the BAIRA made the demand at a human chain held in front of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment at Eskaton Garden in the capital around 11:30am on Monday.

The flow of remittance increased during the 2022-2024 period as the workers were sent to Malaysia.

The country got remittance amounting to $1.21 billion in the 2021-22 fiscal year while $1.51 billion entered in the  first half (six months) of the 2024-25 fiscal year, according to a press release read out during the human chain.

It is being hoped of getting $3.00billion at the end to the current fiscal.

The Malaysia government has begun approving quotas against different source countries to recruit workers for the work at industrial, service and agricultural sectors.

If the interim government can obtain the opportunity, around 10 lakh workers can be sent to the Malaysia in the next five years, which will result in $5.00 billion to Bangladesh as yearly remittance.

As the Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has good relationship with the Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Anwar Ibrahim, a ray of light has appeared.

For the struggle of the Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Advisor Dr Asif Nazrul, a joint working committee meeting is going to be held in Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia on 15 May.

The open of the labour market in Malaysia will depend on the meeting.

In the press note, it is said that some members of the BAIRA are trying to foil the struggle of opening the Malaysian labour market.

Some senor leaders of the BAIRA spoke at the human chain. After the programme, they said they will submit a memorandum to the chief advisor.
