Emphasising the urgent need to shun the path of the politics of divisiveness, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that politics creates a separation between the Hindu and Muslim communities.

“When we were engaged in the Liberation War in 1971, we didn’t think about who were Muslims, who were Hindus or Christians. We fought for the country together. But unfortunately, our politics sometimes creates a separation among the people. We must shun the path,” he said.

While addressing a function after unveiling a plaque of a temple at Kalibari in Thakurgaon Municipality on Wednesday, Fakhrul said a ground was created after the 5 August changeover to rebuild Bangladesh.

He also called upon all people, irrespective of their religious faith, to join the journey to rebuild Bangladesh, upholding the aspirations of the people.

About the people of the local Hindu community, he affirmed that his party stands with them and will remain in future in their moments of joy and sorrow.

Claiming that BNP does not believe in the politics of divisiveness, he said a conspiracy is still being hatched to create a separation among the countrymen.

“Let us strive to build a new Bangladesh where people of all castes and creeds, including Hindus, Muslims, Christians and other communities, can live together in harmony and peace,” he said.
