A Dhaka court on Tuesday directed the authorities to submit progress reports by 12 May on the execution of arrest warrants issued for ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and 16 others in two cases concerning plot allocation irregularities in the RAJUK Purbachal New Town Project.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order as the police failed to submit the progress reports, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) public prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir told media.
The same court ordered the seizure of an apartment registered in the name of Saima Wazed Putul, daughter of Sheikh Hasina, in Gulshan-1 IN the capital. According to the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) application, the deed value of the flat is Tk57 lakh.
On 25 March, the ACC submitted charges against Hasina, Joy and 16 others in these two cases.
On 15 April, the same court issued arrest warrants against Hasina, Joy and others after accepting the charges in three cases.
The ACC officials have shown all the accused as fugitives as they did not secure bail from any court in the country.
The ACC filed six cases over alleged irregularities in six plot allocations, each measuring 10 kathas, in the diplomatic zone of Sector-27 in Purbachal. Hasina is accused in all of the six cases in connection to the irregularities.
On 10 April, the same court issued arrest warrants against 18 people, including Hasina and Saima Wazed Putul, in one of the six cases over the plot allocation irregularities.
Seizing order of Putul’s apartment
The ACC document states that Saima Wazed Putul is under investigation for allegedly acquiring illegal wealth. During the investigation, this immovable property came to light. The seizure order was necessary to prevent her from selling or transferring the property.
On 5 March, the same court ordered the freezing of Tk48.35 crore in 14 bank accounts in the name of Putul’s organisation, the Shuchona Foundation.
Additionally, in several phases, the Dhaka court has ordered the freezing of at least Tk1,065 crore held in several bank accounts belonging to Putul and other members of the Hasina family.
On 27 April, in the ACC’s case over plot allocation irregularities, the court issued an arrest warrant for Saima Wazed Putul through Interpol.
