The legal notice issued against physicians Dr Tasnim Jara and Dr Jahangir Kabir for allegedly spreading obscenity on social media has been withdrawn.

Barrister Mohammad Humayun Pallab, who served the legal notice, confirmed the matter on Sunday.

Earlier on Thursday (24 April), the notice was sent to the government, urging it to take necessary steps to immediately stop obscene and pornographic videos, advertisements, and campaigns across online platforms including Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and Likee.

The notice also called for action against Dr Tasnim Jara, also a senior joint member-secretary of National Citizen Party (NCP), Dr Jahangir Kabir, and others allegedly involved in spreading obscenity via social media. The inclusion of Dr Tasnim Jara’s name drew widespread criticism.

However, the revised notice clarified that no direct legal notice had been served on Dr Tasnim Jara; rather, her name had been mentioned only as a reference. It said that many individuals were trying to exploit the situation for online business purposes, which was deemed "undesirable."

Regarding the withdrawal, Barrister Pallab said that Dr Tasnim Jara had issued a public statement on social media, clarifying that numerous fake Facebook accounts and YouTube channels had been created using her photos and videos, none of which were linked to her official accounts. She asserted that she worked from a place of responsibility.

"As my clients are satisfied with Dr Tasnim Jara’s clarification, they have decided to withdraw her name from the notice," said Barrister Pallab.

He further said that since Dr Jahangir Kabir’s name was also mentioned, his clients have sincerely expressed their regret regarding that as well.
