The police on Tuesday issued two separate statements asserting the Sagar-Runi murder case documents have not been burnt in police custody, refuting media claims in this regard.
Rather, the files have become difficult to procure as many Detective Branch (DB) officials have been transferred.
Hours before the police statement, the state prosecutor reportedly told the High Court that the case documents have been burnt. Some media outlets quoted Additional Attorney General Arshadur Rauf to back up the claim.
However, Arshadur Rauf later claimed that he did not mean the files were burnt.
The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), tasked with probing high-profile case, quoted him to clarify the issue. Rather, Arshadur Rauf said there were difficulties in procuring the files due to the transfer of DB officials.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said the media information over the burning of files is not “correct.”
