Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) units at Dhaka University (DU), Chittagong University (CU), Jahangirnagar University (JU) and Barishal University (BU) staged protests on Monday demanding justice for Zahidul Islam Parvez, a Prime Asia University student and active JCD member killed in broad daylight on Saturday.

Dhaka University

At DU, JCD leaders formed a human chain at the foot of the Raju Sculpture, denouncing the murder and criticising what they called the politicisation of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement (ADSM).

“Parvez was not just a student — he was a hero of the mass uprising,” said DU JCD President Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahos. “If our leadership is attacked again, we will not remain silent.”

Ganesh accused certain factions of hijacking the ADSM and indirectly criticised National Citizen Party Convener Nahid Islam for allegedly trying to rehabilitate Chhatra League activists under its banner.

DU JCD General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon warned, “If anyone uses the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement platform to reintroduce Chhatra League under the guise of general students, we will respond strongly.”

The DU protest concluded with vows to continue the movement until the killers are arrested and punished.

Chittagong University

CU JCD also held a protest rally near the Shaheed Minar, echoing demands for the arrest and punishment of those responsible for Parvez’s murder.

“We are standing here with grief and rage,” said Organising Secretary Sajjad Hossain Hridoy. “The killers must face exemplary punishment within 24 hours.”

CU JCD President Mohammad Alauddin Mohsin said the assailants had been identified, but no visible action had been taken. “We are here to study, not chase down murderers,” he said, urging for a safer, discrimination-free campus.

General Secretary Abdullah Al Noman warned that any future attack on Chhatra Dal would be met with resistance.

Jahangirnagar University

At JU, the JCD unit staged a human chain near the central Shaheed Minar, directly blaming the Awami League and Chhatra League for the killing.

“This is not an isolated case. The Awami League and Chhatra League are carrying out targeted killings across the country,” said Affan Ali, a senior convener of JU JCD.

Convener Zahir Uddin Babor drew parallels with the 2012 murder of Biswajit Das, saying, “Parvez was killed just as brutally. The CCTV footage clearly identifies the culprits.”

JU JCD demanded that the interim government arrest and bring the perpetrators to justice within 24 hours.

Barishal University

In protest of the brutal murder of Zahidul Islam Parvez, BU JCD also held a human chainin front of the university’s main gate at noon on Monday.

Calling it a pre-planned murder, the speakers demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the attack, including SobhanNiazTushar, joint convener of the ADSM of Bananithana, and HridayMiazi, joint member secretary.
