A Dhaka court has ordered the authorities concerned to confiscate 100 acres of land allotted in Purbachal after the name of Sikder Group Managing Director Ron Haque Sikder.

Judge Md Zakir Hossain of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court passed the order on Monday following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in this connection.

The ACC was engaged in investigating allegations of corruption, including the looting of public deposits and sanctioning loans in exchange for bribes against the board of directors of the National Bank.

At one stage of the investigation, the anti-corruption watchdog claimed to have found anomalies in allotting 100 acres of land in the Purbachal New Town Project after the name of PowerPac Holdings, a concern of the Sikder Group of Companies.

The property worth around Tk 5,000 crore was allotted for Tk 3,000 crore and Ron Haque took the land under his possession, deploying security guards by paying an installment of Tk 270 crore.

Besides, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) has approved the group to build a 100 to 142-storey building.

Ron Haque also built a three-storey building without approval of the RAJUK and took a Tk 110 crore bank loan against the property, showing fake documents, the ACC said in its allegation.
