Extremists from two Hindu nationalist groups threatened 100 Christians with sticks during an Easter event in Ahmedabad city, India on Sunday.

The Hindu extremists alleged that a programme to convert Hindus into Christians was being conducted at the time. In initial probe, police failed to find proof in this regard, reports the Indian Express. The extremists also failed to produce proofs.

A video of the extremists wielding sticks and chanting “Jai Shree Ram” slogans during the Easter event, surfaced on social media later in the day.

Extremists alleged that religious conversions were taking place at the event and sought to know from the gathering how many of them were Hindus, the police and Christian community members told reporters.

Inspector PN Zinzuvadia of Odhav police station in Ahmedabad said the incident happened on Sunday morning when around 100 Christian community members were attending an Easter event.

Soon afterwards the members of two Hindu nationalist groups – Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) – stormed the hall. Immediately, police were called to the spot and representatives of both sides were taken to the police station.

Inspector Zinzuvadia said Darshan Joshi, a local Bajrang Dal member, has given an application to probe the “religious conversion.”

From the Christian side, one Emanuel Amaydas submitted a complaint against 10-15 unidentified youths.
