Police have brought the situation under control after students from Dhaka College and City College began a fight at the capital’s Science Lab intersection.

Two students have sustained injuries as the rival groups threw stones at each other during the chase and counter-chase.

Additional police deployed to the scene and managed to persuade the fighting students to go inside their respective institutions by 12.30pm, said police's Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam. 

Two teams of police are accompanying each group to pre-empt a resumption of fighting, he said adding some teachers have also helped to pacify the students.

Police are working to learn the reason behind the clash, which has become a frequent manner in the area, Masud told reporters.
