Gazipur City Corporation has banned smoking across all its offices, departments, branches, and regional centres.

An office order signed by the city corporation’s Joint Secretary and Chief Executive Officer Abdul Latif Khan was issued in this regard on Sunday.

The announcement was made during a seminar supported by the Development Organisation of the Rural Poor (DORP), aimed at strengthening tobacco control efforts in Gazipur as part of the broader goal of achieving a tobacco-free Bangladesh.

Abdul Latif urged all relevant authorities to take immediate steps to implement the order, expressing his strong commitment to making the entire Gazipur city smoke-free.

Speaking as a special guest, Gazipur Civil Surgeon Dr Mamunur Rahman emphasised the need to protect young people from the dangers of smoking.

The keynote paper was presented by Rubina Islam, Programme Coordinator of the DORP Tobacco Control Project.
