An 18 year-old girl was killed after being “raped” in Chandanaish upazila of Chattogram early Wednesday. Her grandparents were critically injured after they learnt of the incident.

The deceased was identified as Arzu Akter from Kanchannagar area of the same upazila.

She went to her maternal grandfather’s house to enjoy Eid holiday in Dakshin Gachhbaria Nayapara area.

Police and locals said Nazim, paternal cousin of the victim’s mother, went to the same house on Tuesday evening and raped the girl around 3:30am.

As the victim’s grandparents Abdul Hakim and Farida Aktar saw the matter, Nazim stabbed them with a sharp weapon, leaving them critically injured.

They were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Md Nuruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Chandanaish police station, said a police officer was sent to the spot in the early morning.

Efforts were underway to detain the suspect, the OC added.
