Regarding the suspension of US procurement orders, Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser, has said there is no need to panic about them.
“We have repeatedly said that we will take steps so that Bangladesh's exports to the United States increase, not decrease,” he said during a press briefing at the Intercontinental Hotel in the capital on Monday.
In response to a question from reporters about the suspension of ready-made garment export orders to the United States, Shafiqul said, “I think these are short-term.”
“There is no need to panic.… That is all we have told the businessmen,” he said, adding that, “We had a very good meeting with businessmen yesterday [Sunday].”
“Former BGMEA president Faruque Hassan, BKMEA Executive President Mohammad Hatem, Tapan Chowdhury, Nasim Manjur, Lubana Haque, among others, were present there. I told them that the steps we are taking will increase our exports to the US, not decrease it,” he said.
In response to a question about sending a letter to Donald Trump, the chief adviser's press secretary said, “Our letter is a big message.”
