National Citizen Party Chief Organiser (North) Sarjis Alam on Sunday urged the people to hold march across the country on Monday, protesting against the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza.

In a Facebook post, he said oppressed brothers and sisters in Gaza have called for observing a general strike worldwide on 7 April. They have urged all the countries to shut their schools, colleges, universities, offices, and courts simultaneously, demanding an end to the genocide, he said.

“But our responsibility as humans or Muslims should not be limited to closing these institutions, rather, students and people from all over the country, regardless of party or opinion, should take to the streets together and protest against the Israeli murderers.”

He wrote, “We may not be able to stand and fight alongside our brothers in Gaza right now. But we can at least take to the streets of our motherland to announce solidarity with their struggle.

“Not under the banner of NCP, BNP-Jamaat, or any other party, but under the banner of 'Bangladesh', regardless of party or opinion, we can take to the streets tomorrow [Monday] and stand against the genocide in Gaza. We can chant slogans against the murderer Netanyahu.”

Israel's military resumed its offensive in Gaza on 18 March, and since then, more than 1,330 people have been killed in the territory, according to the Hamas-run territory's health ministry, reports AFP.

The overall death toll since the war erupted now stands at 50,695, according to the Gaza health ministry.
