A Dhaka court has ordered the freezing of 34 bank accounts belonging to former Special Security Force (SSF) Director General (DG) Md Mujibur Rahman and his wife Tasreen Mujib on charges of irregularities and corruption. These bank accounts have deposits worth Tk1 crore 44 lakh 99 thousand two hundred.

In addition, an order has been issued to seize two flats, a plot with a building, and 42.30 kathas of land in Mujib's name in Dhaka City.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Zakir Hossain Ghalib on Sunday passed the order in response to an application by the ACC.

Among the frozen bank accounts, 24 are in the name of Mujibur Rahman and 10 are in the name of his wife. On this day, Deputy Director Md Sirajul Haque, on behalf of the ACC, filed a petition for the seizure and freezing of these assets.

ACC lawyer Mir Ahmed Ali Salam conducted the hearing on behalf of the ACC. The court later granted the prayer.

Among the seized assets, there is a 4,050-square-foot flat in Matikata of Mirpur, owned by Mujibur Rahman, another flat in the Cantonment area, and a plot and building in Rupganj of Narayanganj.

In addition, 42.30 kathas of land in 11 documents in Khilkhet, Mirpur, Savar, and Dhaka Cantonment areas have been seized.

ACC Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam confirmed this information.

The seizure application filed by the ACC states that Mujibur Rahman is under investigation for embezzling hundreds of crores of taka through various irregularities and corruption while serving in various important government positions.

He is engaged in attempts to sell or transfer his illegally acquired assets elsewhere. For this reason, it is necessary to seize various immovable assets and block bank accounts in the names of himself, his wife, and persons or organisations with interests.

If their immovable assets are not seized and their bank accounts are not frozen, it will not be possible to confiscate them in favour of the state during the trial. This is likely to cause irreparable damage to the state.
