Bangladesh's exports to the US won’t decrease, rather increase: Shafiqul Alam

Bangladesh is a business-friendly country and the export volume to the US is expected to increase as the government will adopt pragmatic measures, Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser, said on Saturday.

“We will undertake pragmatic steps that will boost Bangladesh’s export volume to the United States,” he said while talking to reporters in front of State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka this evening.  

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus convenes an emergency meeting to discuss the US tariff issue where top experts, advisers and officials within the government attend the meeting.

“The meeting will discuss what we will write to the White House in this regard. I can make sure that some positive decisions will come out from today's meeting,” he said before holding of the meeting.

Earlier, the United States announced a 37 percent tariff on imports from Bangladesh as part of President Donald Trump's sweeping new "Reciprocal Tariffs" policy.
