Former SSF chief Md Mujibur Rahman.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has discovered enormous wealth owned by former Director General of the Special Security Force (SSF), Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Mujibur Rahman, and his wife.
According to the ACC, Mujibur Rahman and his wife own a 4,050-square-foot flat in Mirpur, along with 10 plots in Mirpur, Cantonment, Khilkhet, and Purbachal. Additionally, they have another flat in the Cantonment area, a house in Purbachal, and land with a tin-shed house in Savar.
The ACC investigation also uncovered substantial financial transactions in 15 bank accounts belonging to Mujibur Rahman and his wife, Tasrin Mujib. Since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on 5 August last year, Mujibur Rahman has gone into hiding.
Sources within the ACC claim that Mujibur Rahman misused his power while holding various high-ranking government positions to accumulate illicit wealth in his family members’ names. Large sums of money linked to corruption and bribery were found deposited and withdrawn from the couple’s bank accounts.
The ACC has petitioned the court to confiscate two flats, 11 plots, and a house in Savar registered under Tasrin Mujib’s name. It has also requested the freezing of their 15 bank accounts. ACC Deputy Director Mohammad Sirajul Haque submitted the petition last Monday.
Before Sheikh Hasina’s government fell, Mujibur Rahman served as SSF’s Director General. He was later transferred to Mymensingh as the GOC of the Army Training and Doctrine Command. On 12 September, he was dismissed from service. Previously, he held key positions, including Quartermaster General at Army Headquarters and Additional Director General of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
ACC sources report that Mujibur Rahman and his wife own multiple plots in Dhaka, with seven registered under Tasrin Mujib’s name in the Bawnia Mouza area of Dhaka Cantonment. Her largest plot measures 7.5 kathas, valued at Tk 98.25 lakh. She also owns a flat in the Joar Sahara area of Dhaka Cantonment.
Mujibur Rahman owns a 4,050-square-foot flat in Mirpur’s Matikata area, which he declared to be worth Tk 1.8 crore. He also possesses three plots in Mirpur’s Matikata, Cantonment, and Khilkhet. His largest plot, measuring 7.5 kathas, is located in Khilkhet. In addition, he owns another plot and a house in Purbachal and a tin-shed house on 5 decimals of land in Savar.
Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman remarked, “No government or military-civilian official can amass such immense wealth without corruption. Arguments may be made to justify this wealth, but even serving in top UN peacekeeping positions would not enable such accumulation. Corrupt officials must be brought to justice, along with those who sheltered and facilitated their corruption.”
