The Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad observed the “Genocide Day” with due solemnity on Tuesday.
All the mission staff wore black badges at the remembrance event, marking 25 March 1971. The event bagan with recitation from the Holy Quran, read a press release.
A minute of silence followed in memory of those martyred on the black night during Pakistani gruesome military raids.
Afterwards, the Chief Adviser’s written message was read out, paying tributes to the martyrs.
Bangladesh High Commissioner Md Iqbal Hussain Khan also delivered a speech remembering the martyrs and the Freedom Fighters with due respect, while highlighting the day’s significance. He stressed preserving the rights of people in Bangladesh through the continuation of democratic practices. The Bangladesh envoy also called on all of his countrymen to work towards building the country in the spirit of patriotism.
Towards the end of the event, a special prayer was arranged where the participants prayed for everlasting peace for the martyrs of 25 March 1971 and July-August 2024 mass uprising. In the prayers, the participants also wished for the overall prosperity of the nation and the country.
