National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Nahid Islam has warned that any attempts to rehabilitate the defeated Awami League in the country will be dealt with a strong hand.

Nahid issued the warning while addressing an iftar party held in the capital’s Bakshibazar area on Saturday, amid growing demand for a ban on Awami League at universities across the country.

The cohorts of Awami League involved in the July-August carnage must be tried on the soil of the country and those responsible for politicising all government institutions must face punishment through trial, he said.

Meanwhile, the Warriors of July, a forum formed by the families of the martyrs and injured victims of the July 2024 mass uprising, issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the interim government to ban Awami League as a political party.

Akhter Hossain, member secretary of Jatiya Nagorik Committee, while addressing a protest programme in Shahbagh area of Dhaka, said that they would not allow Awami League to engage in politics again until there is the last drop of blood.
