Last year, like in the previous three years, Bangladesh remained behind all in South Asia except Afghanistan on happiness ratings, according to the latest World Happiness Report.
However, the findings of the survey can be fairly questioned as one data revealed Bangladeshis on average share only 2.7 meals a week with friends, families or others.
In the densely populated Bangladesh, shared living, shopping and eating meals still constitute the norm.
The survey was conducted across 147 countries and Bangladesh was ranked 134th, with Afghanistan ranked at the bottom. The UN’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) conducted the surveys in partnership will New York’s Gallup, Oxford University and UK-based Wellbeing Research Centre.
Nepal was adjudged the happiest in South Asia with a global ranking of 92nd, followed by Pakistan at 109th, India at 118th, Myanmar at 126th and Sri Lanka at 133rd. The data for Bhutan and Maldives was not available.
Finland led the global ranking, followed by Denmark, Iceland, Sweden and Netherlands on the second, third, fourth and fifth spots. Israel ranked eight, while the “State of Palestine” ranked 108th.
