Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has instructed to take prompt action on several issues for the welfare of the police members working at the grassroots level.
He came up with the directives at a meeting with Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and officials concerned at the state guesthouse Jamuna in Dhaka on Wednesday, following demands raised by police officers during a meeting on Monday.
The chief adviser ordered to take immediate measures in considering the issue of lifting the existing ceiling on risk allowance, taking steps to procure 364 new pickups and 140 prisoner vans for police, disbursing funds for ongoing construction projects which witnessed less than 70% progress, disbursing funds for acquiring land for 65 police stations located in rented buildings, and considering the issue of interest-free loans for purchasing motorcycles for SI (sub-inspector) and ASI (assistant sub-inspector) level officers.
Yunus said district police should be categorised based on their performance and steps should be taken to improve the efficiency of those with relatively lower-performance results.
