A Dhaka court on Monday lifted travel bans of Orion Group Chairman Obaidul Karim and his wife Arzuda Karim after they sought permission to travel abroad for medical treatment and Umrah pilgrimage purposes.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakaria Hossain Galib issued the order on lifting the bans.

On 17 February, the ACC successfully moved the court in favour of imposing travel bans on Obaidul Karim, his wife and other family members.

The ACC told the court Obaidul Karim and his family members are being investigated for money laundering. Confidential information suggested they would flee abroad as the allegations were highly likely to be proven in court, the ACC plea claimed.
