44 more undergo free eye surgery at BEHRI

Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute (BEHRI) has provided free cataract surgeries for 44 underprivileged patients.

The daylong surgery took place at the BEHRI in Bashundhara Residential Area of the capital on Thursday. The surgery was jointly organised by the Vision Care Foundation and Chikitsa Sahayata Kendra of Chapainawabganj.

Under the supervision of BEHRI Director Prof Dr Md Saleh Ahmed, Dr Anthony Albert, Dr Akhter Ferdousi Jahan, Dr Jerin Parveen and Dr Nusrat Lubna Islam participated in the surgery. Speaking on the matter, BEHRI Manager Ahsan Habib stated that the initiative aims to support underprivileged and visually impaired patients in receiving essential eye treatment.

“Over 3,395 patients have undergone surgery at no cost through free camps across the country,” he added.

Earlier on 4 February, a free eye treatment camp was held at Krishna Gobindapur Degree College in Chapainawabganj. A total of 1,700 patients received free medical services at the camp, with 200 selected for eye surgery due to severe conditions.
